No. 5 Virginia Falls 6-3 at No. 3 Princeton

PRINCETON, NJ – The No. 5 Virginia women’s squash team (2-2) suffered a 6-3 loss at No. 3 Princeton (2-0) on Saturday (Nov. 20) at the Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J.

Senior Emma Jinks, junior Maria Moya and sophomore Megan Best all picked up wins in their matches.

Jinks got the Cavaliers on the scoreboard with a win at four. Jinks bounced back from an 11-5 loss in the first game to outlast Andrea Toth 12-10 in the second. After Toth took the third game, Jinks came back with an 11-7 win to force the decider and then won the fifth 11-8.

Moya’s position three match was knotted 1-1 when she won the third game 13-11 against Caroline Spahr. She held on for an 11-8 win in the fourth game to secure the victory.

Best closed out the competition with an 11-4, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7 win at the top position against Elle Rugerio.

“The women were warriors out there today, and pushed the Tigers all the way to the limit. Princeton handed us shutout losses in our three previous meetings but the story was quite different this afternoon. Meagan Best, Maria Moya, and Emma Jinks recorded massive wins for us, and Sydney Maxwell was just one shot away from picking up a fourth point for our side. I am proud to coach a team with the guts and determination these ladies possess; they leave everything on the court, every single time they play. As a coach, you truly can’t ask for more than that.  Tomorrow we are looking to close out our road trip on a high note in our contest against Cornell before taking a few days of well-earned R&R with our families.”

• Virginia closes out its weekend road trip by taking on Cornell on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. The match will be played at the Penn Squash Center in Philadelphia
