CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s squash team (4-2) defeated No. 12 Dartmouth (0-2) by a 9-0 score on Friday (Dec. 3) at the McArthur Squash Center in Charlottesville, Va.

The match was the team’s first home contest since Jan. 26, 2020.

Four Cavaliers, including sophomore Meagan Best at the top of the ladder, won their matches in three games. Sophomore Olivia Walsh battled back from a 2-0 deficit to win her match at the No. 2 position in five games. Junior Maria Moya also battled for five games to earn her victory at three. Sophomore Erin O’Connor also battled for five games, winning the decider 12-10 to keep the sweep intact.

FROM HEAD COACH MARK ALLEN
“An emphatic win for the women, though Dartmouth fought hard and the match was far more competitive than the final scoreline suggests. While Meagan, Emma, Sydney and Mandy all looked very sharp today and were dominant in their matches, the rest of them were much closer affairs, and second years Erin O’Connor and Olivia Walsh demonstrated this teams fighting spirit by both battling back to win from a 2-0 deficit. That’s the 6th Ivy league school in a row that we’ve played, and to come out with a 4-2 winning record is an impressive feat for this team. We are looking forward to another two home games tomorrow and giving the opportunity to first years, Nicolina Tessitore, Caroline Pellegrino and Annabelle Mactaggart to make their UVA debuts playing in the front nine.”
