No. 8 Virginia Closes Weekend with a 9-0 Win Against Franklin & Marshall

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 8 Virginia men’s squash team (5-4, 3-0 MASC) closed out a three-match weekend with a 9-0 victory against Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference opponent No. 16 Franklin & Marshall (2-6, 1-1) on Sunday (Dec. 5) at the McArthur Squash Center.

The Cavaliers have won four straight, including all three matches this weekend, to head into the winter break with a winning record.

NOTES

  • Virginia has swept all three of their conference matches this season. They opened the year with a 9-0 win at Navy and topped MIT 9-0 yesterday
  • Cullen Little, CJ Baldini and Taha Dinana have each won their last four matches
  • Dinana was leading 11-0, 10-2 in his match today when his opponent retired with an injury
  • Omar El Torkey has won his last 15 games, sweeping each of his last five matches
  • In three matches this weekend, El Torkey’s opponents only won 18 points combined in the three matches
  • Only one of the matches against Franklin & Marshall went beyond three games

“The men followed up yesterday’s sweep with another today, and with that take us into the winter break 5-4.  I was really pleased with how well the team prepared for today’s match – there was no complacency after yesterday’s win, and everyone came out ready and dictated play from the first rally onwards. We can all take a well-earned break now, and then set our sights on a high match versus current National Champions Harvard at home on January 9. ”

ON THE HORIZON

  • Virginia will take a break for final exams and the holidays before returning to action on Sunday, Jan. 9 by hosting No. 2 Harvard
