No. 7 Virginia Sweeps Opening Two Matches of MASC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s squash team (12-3) picked up a pair of wins to kick off their pursuit of the 2022 MASC title as the Cavaliers swept both Georgetown (7-10) and Dickinson (3-13) by scores of 9-0 in Lancaster, Pa.

The Hoos began the competition dispatching the Hoyas for the second time this season. Griffin Dewey got the ball rolling as she defeated Chloe Kim by a score of 11-4, 11-6, 11-4. Caroline Pellegrino delivered the deciding blow with a victory over Mina Holleck (11-2, 11-1, 11-0).

In their second match of the competition the Cavaliers swept Dickinson for the second time this season. Once again it was Dewey that set the tempo for the Wahoos with an 11-1, 11-2, 11-5 victory. Pellegrino decided the match once again with an 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 victory. To secure a 2-0 record for the Hoos after the first half of the round robin tournament.

  • Virginia’s Caroline Baldwin competed in her 50th match and earned an 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 victory
  • Virginia looks to secure their second MASC title in three seasons on Sunday (Feb. 6)
  • Julia Curran has won her last eight matches this season
  • Virginia and Drexel are both undefeated in the tournament
  • The Hoos will match up with Drexel in the last match of the tournament

  • The Cavaliers will play two matches on Sunday, Feb. 5 beginning with Franklin & Marshall at 9:30 a.m. and ending with a match against Drexel at 1:30 p.m.
