CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-17, 0-10 ACC) hosts Syracuse (9-12, 2-9 ACC) on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.. at John Paul Jones Arena.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The Syracuse game is a rescheduled game from Jan. 16 that was postponed because of snow
  • This is game No. 2 in a string of six games in 12 days
  • Virginia is coming off a 59-55 loss against Clemson on Sunday. The Cavaliers have led by 12 points in each of their last two games only to see those leads evaporate
  • Virginia shot 34.6 percent from the free throw line against Clemson, going 9-of-26
  • The Cavaliers grabbed a season-high 49 rebounds against the Tigers. Virginia is averaging 35.3 rebounds per game. In the last two games, UVA has averaged 47.0 per game
  • Virginia was +3 in rebounding at BC and +11 Sunday against Clemson, giving them a +7 average in the last two games
  • UVA ranks sixth in field goal percentage defense in conference games, holding ACC opponents to 39.2 percent and 30.0 percent from three-point range
  • Sophomore guard Mir McLean had her second double-digit scoring game in her four games in a UVA uniform, putting up 11 points against the Tigers. She is averaging 9.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game
  • Grad student center Eleah Parker matched her season-high with 12 rebounds against Clemson. It was her second double-digit rebounding effort in the last five games
  • Parker has moved up to sixth in the ACC in blocked shots per game at 1.68. She averages 2.67 blocked shots per game against conference opponents, ranking second
  • Parker has blocked 32 shots this season. Her next closest teammate is junior forward London Clarkson with 10
  • Junior guard Taylor Valladay had four assists against Clemson. She ranks eighth in the ACC in assists per game (3.3) and ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.19)

SCOUTING SYRACUSE

  • Syracuse leads the ACC in free throw shooting percentage, ranking seventh in the nation at 79.2 percent
  • The Orange also leads the ACC in steals per game at 10.5 and is second in turnovers forced at 19.9 per game (ranking 34th in the nation)
  • Syracuse is third in three-point field goals per game at 8.1
  • Teisha Hyman is fourth in the ACC in assists per game (4.1), sixth in points per game (15.0) and second in steals per game (2.38)
  • Both Naje Murray and Christianna Carr are averaging 2.05 made threes per game
  • Syracuse leads the all-time series 8-5
  • Virginia won the regular-season meeting in 2020 57-41 before the Orange exacted their revenge in the ACC Tournament with a 67-50 victory

  • Virginia has two road games this week, playing at No. 3 Louisville (20-2, 11-1 ACC) on Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Yum! Center and closing the week at Wake Forest (12-11, 2-10 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum
