CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling team returns to action on Sunday (March 6) when the Cavaliers hit the mat for the ACC Championships at John Paul Jones Arena. Wrestling begins at 11 a.m.

TICKETS INFORMATION/HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Tickets for Sunday’s ACC Championships and can be purchased online at UVATix.com. All attendees 12 years of age and older are required to provide proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test result for entry. All attendees must wear a mask while inside John Paul Jones Arena except when they are actively eating or drinking.

HOW TO FOLLOW THE ACTION
All bouts of the ACC Championships will be streamed live on ACCNX through the ESPN app with live streams available for each of the two competition mats. NOTING THE HOOS
• Six Cavaliers are looking to return to the NCAA Championships after earning berths last year to represent UVA.
• Jay Aiello (197) is looking for his fourth straight NCAA Championship bid, while Justin McCoy (165) and Quinn Miller (285) are looking for a third consecutive bid.
• Brian Courtney (133), Jake Keating (157) and Patrick McCormick are looking for a second straight bid.
• Jarod Verkleeren (149) is looking for a second bid after earning a spot at Penn State in 2020 when the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
• Three Hoos finished as runner-up at the 2021 ACC Championships – Justin McCoy (157), Jake Keating (165) and Jay Aiello (197). Two more returning Hoos placed with Patrick McCormick (125) and Quinn Miller (285) taking third.
• Seven Cavaliers are ranked in the latest edition of the Coaches Panel Rankings, while four make an appearance in the latest RPI. The two measurements are used to help NCAA selections.

AUTOMATIC NCAA BERTHS ON THE LINE SUNDAY
The championships serve as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. The ACC has been allotted 39 automatic qualifiers; the breakdown by weight class: 125: 3, 133: 5, 141: 4, 149: 4, 157: 5, 165: 3, 174: 4, 184: 5, 197: 3, 285: 3. To earn the automatic qualifier, each wrestler must finish a certain place or higher at the conference championships (e.g., place in top three at 125 pounds).

VIRGINIA AT THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
UVA has won five ACC Championships – 1974, 1975, 1977, 2010 and 2015. Virginia finished second at the 2012 and 2013 ACC Championships. The five ACC Championships is third most of all current members of the league behind North Carolina and NC State. Virginia has finished as runner-up 22 times, giving the Cavaliers 27 finishes in the top two in the league all-time.
