UVA in Second Place After 36 Holes at Palmetto Intercollegiate
AIKEN, S.C. – After the first 36 holes of play, the Virginia men’s golf team is in second place at the 25th-annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C. The Cavaliers shot seven-over 567 on the par-70 course at Palmetto Golf Club. South Carolina leads the 15-team field at 3-under 557.
Senior Sam Jung had the best opening-day for the Cavaliers, posting back-to-back rounds of 1-over 71 to finish in 10th place at 2-over 142. A trio of Cavaliers, George Duangmanee, Pietro Bovari and Jimmie Massie, are tied for 14th place at 3-over 143. Duangmanee had rounds of 72 and 71, Massie shot 73 and 70 and Bovari posted scores of 75 and 68. His second-round effort was the best by a Cavalier. Chris Fosdick in in 35th place after shooting 147.
UVA was in fourth place after the opening round when the Cavaliers shot 7-over 287. Virginia rebounded during the afternoon play, shooting even par 280.
The final round of the tournament is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday. UVA will be paired with South Carolina and VCU during the final round. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
