CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (27-23, 13-11 ACC) earned the sixth seed at the upcoming ACC Championships and will face third-seeded Florida State (49-5, 19-5 ACC) in the second round. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch on Thursday (May 12) on ACC Network.

The six seed for Virginia is the highest in the tournament since the 2012 season when the Cavaliers were also seeded sixth.

The 2022 ACC Championships are being hosted by Pittsburgh and will be played at Vartabedian Field on Pitt’s campus. The tournament begins on Wednesday (May 11) and runs through the championship game on Saturday (May 14). Virginia received a first-round bye with its sixth-place finish in the standings.

NOTING THE HOOS PATH TO THE ACC TOURNAMENT
Virginia earned a berth in the ACC Tournament for the third time under head coach Joanna Harding and the first time since the 2019 season. It is the 25th appearance in the ACC Tournament in program history.

Virginia secured the six seed with its 13-11 record after winning four series in ACC play, including three series sweeps. The Cavaliers won the series against No. 24 Notre Dame to open conference play and posted sweeps over NC State, Boston College and Pittsburgh.

The 13 wins in ACC play tied for the most in a single-season by a Virginia team and matched the mark set by the 2010 team. The 27 overall wins is also the most in a single season since 2010.
