CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman golfer Deven Patel (Johns Creek, Ga.) has been named the 2022 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Rookie of the Year today (July 1). In addition, UVA junior Pietro Bovari (Milano, Italy) was named a first-team all-state selection while sophomore George Duangmanee (Fairfax, Va.) was named to the second team.

Bovari, a PING all-East Region selection, led the Cavaliers during the 2021-22 season with a 71.06 stroke average. He topped the team in scoring six times during the season including the ACC Championships and the NCAA Regional. He posted five top-10 finishes during the season including a runner-up showing at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate. That was his best finish as a collegiate. A total of 22 of his 33 rounds during the season were par or better.

Duangmanee was second on the team with a 72.08 stroke average. He had four top-10 finishes including a third-place showing to help the Cavaliers win the inaugural Lewis Chitengwa Memorial at Birdwood Golf Course.

Patel broke into spring lineup and played six events, helping UVA to a sixth-place finish at NCAA Regional. He led the Cavaliers in scoring twice during the spring and ended the season with a 72.25 stroke average.
