Cleary and Sambach Advance to Match Play at US Amateur

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s golfers Jennifer Cleary and Amanda Sambach advanced to Wednesday’s (Aug. 10) 64-player match play portion of the U.S. 122nd annual U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship following 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday this week. The tournament is taking place at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Park, Wash.

Cleary tied for 26th place in stroke play, producing rounds of 72 and 74 for an even-par finish of 146. Sambach was one stroke behind her in 34th position. She shot rounds of 73 and 74. Cleary is seeded No. 31 in the 64-player field for match play while Sambach is No. 34.

Sambach faces ULCA’s Zoe Campos at 11:30 a.m. PDT on Wednesday while Cleary is scheduled to tee off 20 minutes later vs. Saki Baba of Japan.
