CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s golfers Pietro Bovari and Ben James advanced to the 64-player field of match play at the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship on Tuesday. James tied for ninth and Bovari tied for 21st at the conclusion of 36 holes of stroke play. James had rounds of 71 and 70 to finish at even par 141 while Bovari shot 74 on Monday and rebounded with a round of -2, 69 on Tuesday to make the cut at 2-over 143.

UVA’s Deven Patel, also competing at the event, tied for 151st in the 312-player field at 11-over 152.

This year’s tournament is being held in Paramus, N.J. The stroke play took place at Arcola Country Club and Ridgewood Country Club. The remainder of the event will take place at Ridgewood and run through Sunday.
