CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – Fresh off a third-place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate to open the season, the Virginia women’s golf team is in Tennessee this week for the 25th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship hosted by Tennessee. The two-day event takes place Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19-20 at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.

The 14-team field features Augusta, BYU, Chattanooga, Kent State, Maryland, Mercer, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Tennessee, UCF, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and start with an 8:30 a.m. tee time. Tuesday’s final round also features a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.

Virginia’s lineup will include the same five players who competed at the ANNIKA – Amanda Sambach, Megan Propeck, Celeste Valinho, Jennifer Cleary and Riley Smyth – and will add junior Rebecca Skoler.

At the ANNIKA, Sambach took medalist honors for the first time in her career, shooting -9, 207 to win by two strokes. Propeck, making her collegiate debut, was 19th at 3-over 219.

It marks the fourth time UVA has participated in Tennessee’s home tournament, but the first time since 2007 when the Cavaliers finished eighth.
