CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s golf team plays its final event of the fall this weekend when the Cavaliers compete at Georgia Tech’s Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational. The three-day event takes place Friday through Sunday (Oct. 21-23) at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga.

Play gets underway Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. from the first and 10th tees and at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Virginia will be paired with Alabama and Texas A&M during the opening two rounds. They will tee off starting at 9 a.m. from the first tee for the opening round.

The 13-team field includes seven teams ranked inside the current Golfstat top-25 poll: Alabama (12), Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Georgia Tech (13), Pepperdine (25), Southern California, Stanford (5), Tennessee (10), Texas A&M (6), Wake Forest and Washington.

Virginia will field the same lineup that won the Hamptons Intercollegiate in the Cavaliers’ last outing. That group is freshman Ben James, sophomores George Duangmanee and Deven Patel, junior Chris Fosdick and senior Pietro Bovari. All five of those UVA players placed in the top-seven at the Hamptons Intercollegiate including medalist honors for James.

The victory was the second for James in three outings this fall. He shot 5-under 211, including a final-round of 3-under 69, to finish nine shots ahead of a trio of players in second place. That matched the largest margin of victory for an individual medalist in UVA history.

James currently leads UVA with a 68.67 stroke average. He is ranked No. 4 in the most recent Golfstat individual poll.

The field for this year’s Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate includes six teams that played in the 2022 NCAA Championships and all 13 squads participated in the NCAA regionals. Last year UVA tied the Yellow Jackets for sixth place with Bovari and Duangmanee tying for ninth place at 7-under 209. Fosdick and Patel also competed in last year’s tournament.
