CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 8 Virginia women’s squash team (0-1) fell 6-3 to No. 6 Yale (1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Squash Center.

The Cavalier women took the early lead with Meagan Best cruising to 3-0 (11-3, 11-5, 11-3) over Sneha Sivakumar at the top of the ladder. Virginia picked up a win at the five position from Sydney Maxwell, 3-0 (12-10, 11-6, 11-9) after three-straight points for the Bulldogs to cut it to 3-2.

Yale added two more wins to secure the match before Olivia Walsh won 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-5) at the four position over Brianna Jefferson.

Maureen Foley was in a tightly contested match, winning the first game 11-6, before dropping the next two. Foley won the fourth to force the deciding fifth game but eventually fell 7-11 to Yale’s Whitney Taylor.

MATCH NOTES

  • All three wins for the Cavaliers were 3-0 sweeps.
  • Best has now won four-straight matches dating back to last season.
