CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Madison Morey and Veresia Yon have been named to the 2022 Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday (Nov. 22). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Morey has started in 18 matches as UVA’s libero and leads the team in digs per set (2.90). She posted a career-high 26 digs in the Cavaliers’ season opener, a 3-1 win over ETSU in Gainesville, Florida. Morey was named to the Xavier All-Tournament team after leading UVA to three straight tournament wins. On Sept. 10, she appeared on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays for a miraculous dig against Charlotte that ultimately landed on the 49ers’ side of the net, resulting in a point for the Cavaliers.

Yon currently leads UVA with a .344 hitting percentage (min. 3 TA/set), which is good for sixth in the ACC, and is second on the team in blocks per set (0.89). Yon registered a season-high seven blocks in Virginia’s sweep over Notre Dame on Oct. 23, when the Cavaliers became one of just four Division-I teams – at the time – to total 16.0 blocks in a three-set match. In 2022, Yon transferred to UVA after graduating from West Florida, one of the nation’s premier Division-II volleyball programs, where she was crowned AVCA South Region Player of the Year and a First Team All-American in 2021.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late December. For more information about CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams program, visit AcademicAllAmerica.com.
