CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia swimming and diving had seven student-athletes selected to the Academic All-District Teams, the College Sports Communicators announced on Tuesday (Feb. 28).

UVA’s men’s swimming and diving team had three selections, represented by seniors Sean Conway, Josh Fong and August Lamb.

All three honorees competed for the Cavaliers at the 2023 ACC Championships. Fong earned All-ACC honors with his third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Lamb was part of UVA’s second place 200 free and 200 medley relays.

On the women’s side, seniors Lexi Cuomo, Kate Douglass and Ella Nelson along with sophomore Gretchen Walsh were recognized.

Douglass was the ACC Women’s Most Valuable Swimmer of the Meet at the 2023 ACC Championship, winning three individual events and part of four relay wins. Nelson won the 400-yard IM and tied for first in the 500-yard freestyle. Walsh was the ACC Champion in the 50-yard freestyle. Cuomo teamed up with Douglass and Walsh in for wins in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and the 200 medley relay.

To qualify for the Academic All-District teams, student-athletes must have a 3.50 cumulative GPA and have competed at the school for a full calendar year.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District Swimming & Diving Teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in late March.
