CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s and women’s squash players were selected to compete at the 2023 CSA National Collegiate Individual Championships Friday (March 3) through Sunday (March 5).

HOOS SELECTED TO A DIVISION

  • Virginia had three players selected to the A Division.
  • For the men, Aly Hussein is the No. 1 seed in the Pool Trophy: A Division to lead the Cavaliers selections.
  • Hussein enters the tournament with a 16-1 record at No.1 for UVA. His only loss on the season was against Harvard in the fall season.
  • Hussein is matched with 16-seed Ido Burstein from Harvard at noon.
  • Meagan Best is the No. 4 seed in the women’s Ramsay Trophy: A Division.
  • Best is 13-4 on the season, all at No. 1 for the Cavaliers. She will face 3-seed Chan Sin Yuk of Columbia at 12:50 p.m.
  • Omar El Torkey rounds out UVA’s selections to the A Division. El Torkey won all three matches for UVA in the CSA Team Championships last weekend.
  • El Torkey will face 7-seed Veer Chotrani from Cornell at 1:35 p.m. on Friday.

HOOS IN THE B DIVISION

  • For the men, JP Tew is the 5-seed in the B Division South bracket. Tew will face 12-seed Filip Krueger (Drexel) on Friday at 9:45 a.m.
  • Six UVA women will compete in B Division brackets.
  • Maria Moya is the 1-seed in the B Division North and will face 16-seed Rachel Matamoros (Connecticut) at 9:45 a.m.
  • Maureen Foley is the 10-seed in the B Division North, playing 7-seed Amira Singh (Harvard) at 9:45 a.m.
  • Lina Tammam is the 2-seed in the B Division East, playing 15-seed Aileen Dominguez (Colby) at noon.
  • Sydney Maxwell is the 8-seed and will face 9-seed Basmala Sayed Ahmed at 11:15 a.m.
  • Emma Jinks is the No. 3 seed in the B Division South and will face Katie Hennessy (Georgetown) at 10:30 a.m.
  • Olivia Walsh is the 3-seed in the B Division West, playing Yu Quan Ng (Williams) at 1:30 p.m.
