MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team is in first place after the opening two rounds of competition at the General Hackler Championship on Monday at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Virginia shot 22-under 554 to take a two-stroke lead over East Tennessee State into Tuesday’s final round. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 9-under 279 and 13-under 275.

UVA freshman Ben James leads the field at 11-under 133. James posted scores of 4-under 68 and 7-under 65 during his two rounds. He posted 10 birdies and an eagle during his two rounds with just one bogey on his scorecard. East Tennessee State’s Mats Ege is one shot behind James on the leaderboard.

Fellow first-year Bryan Lee is in eighth place for the Cavaliers with back-to-back rounds of 69 to finish the day at 6-under 138. George Duangmanee is 17th at 141 (70-71) while Deven Patel is 22nd at 2-under 142 (72-70). Chris Fosdick rounded out UVA’s scoring with rounds of 74 and 72. He stands in 48th place. Jaron Leasure, competing as an individual, is 29th at 1-under 143 (72-71)

Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 8 a.m. UVA will be paired with East Tennessee State and Louisville. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
