LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Virginia women’s golfer Amanda Sambach was eliminated during the Round of 64 of Match Play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Wednesday. She dropped a 3&2 match to Anna Davis.
Sambach posted her second consecutive top-20 finish in stroke play at the championship to move on to the match play portion of the event. This year marked the third time since 2020 she has played in the championship.
The U.S. Women’s Amateur, the third oldest of the USGA championships, was first played in 1895 at Meadowbrook Club in Hempstead, N.Y. The event is open to any female amateur who has a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 5.4. The Women’s Amateur is one of 14 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
