CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia rowing team opens its fall season at the world’s largest regatta, the Head Of The Charles, in Boston on Sunday (Oct. 22).

The 58th edition of the Head of the Charles will feature 2,548 crews and approximately 11,000 athletes in 75 events. Hundreds of thousands spectators are expected to visit the Charles River over the three-day event.

The Cavaliers, who return to the Head Of The Charles for the first time since 2019, will have two boats racing at the event. The Varsity Four will compete in the Women’s Championship 4+ at 1:35 p.m. The Varsity Eight will compete in the Women’s Championship 8+ at 2:32 p.m.

The Head of the Charles course is 5,000 meters along the Charles River, featuring seven bridges, multiple turns and passing in a head-race format. In head races, each crew starts single file about 10-15 seconds apart and the results are based on time.

UVA’s probable lineup for the Championship 8+ race is Coxswain: Zoe Tekeian, Stroke: Lauren Benedict, 7-seat: Catherine Williams, 6-seat: Ava Schetlick, 5-seat: Cillian Mullen, 4-seat: Elsa Hartman, 3-seat: Jenna Hajji, 2-seat: Megan Goldsmith and Bow: Kate Kelly.

The Cavaliers’ probable lineup for the Championship 4+ race is Coxswain: Nora Grabcheski, Stroke: Lauren Jochims, 3-seat: Skylar Morrison, 2-seat: Eva Frohnhofer and Bow: Sofia Coppola.
