CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia field hockey team (9-5, 2-3 ACC) hosts No. 2 North Carolina (11-2, 4-0 ACC) on Friday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

PROMOTIONS/SPECIAL EVENTS

  • This weekend will be a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the first field hockey game. Seven of the eight head coaches in the program’s history will be recognized on the field right before the start of the game
  • This is the annual Senior Day game. Forth-years Lilly Hengerer, Meghen Hengerer, Anneloes Knol and Esha Shah will be recognized in a post-game ceremony
  • Free field hockey hats will be given out to the first 200 fans in attendance

MATCH NOTES

  • Virginia moved up one spot to No. 7 in this week’s NFHCA poll, the 17th consecutive poll being ranked in the top 10
  • Friday’s game against North Carolina is the fifth top-five opponent in an eight-game span and third in the last four games
  • Junior Taryn Tkachuk earned to co-offensive player of the week nod (alongside Ryleigh Heck of UNC). She posted five points at Wake Forest, scoring two goals and assisting on a third. It was just the second multi-goal game for a Cavalier this season and was the first multi-goal game in Tkachuk’s career and her highest single-game point total
  • She also scored UVA’s goal in regulation at Duke, giving her three goals and seven points for the week
  • Grad student Adele Iacobucci was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for her defensive save in the first overtime period at Duke. It was her first career defensive player honor after earning the offensive accolade as a sophomore
  • Sophomore Madison Orsi also had a defensive save in the Duke game
  • Virginia has a league-leading five defensive saves this season. Junior Noa Boterman has the other three
  • Sophomore Daniela Mendez-Trendler scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime at Duke on Sunday. It was her sixth goal of the season, but her first game-winner of the year. She is the seventh different player to score UVA’s game-winner this season

ON THE HORIZON

  • The Cavaliers close out the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with a 5 p.m. game against James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. The game will stream on ESPN+ ($)
  • Virginia will serve as the host site for the 2023 ACC Field Hockey Championship Oct. 31- Nov. 3 at Turf Field
  • Admission and parking for the ACC Championship are free
