STANFORD, Calif. – Virginia junior Amanda Sambach capped the fall season with a runner-up finish at the Stanford Intercollegiate as UVA tied for fifth place in the 19-team field. Sambach shot 3-under 68 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course on Sunday for a three-day total of 6-under 207. USC’s Catherine Park edged out Sambach for medalist honors by a single stroke.
Sambach’s finish was her third top-10 showing in four fall tournaments. She was ninth at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and won the Glass City Invitational. She shot par-or-better in nine of her 12 rounds this fall. A first-team All-American last season, Sambach now has 14 top-10 finishes during her collegiate career.
The Cavaliers shot 11-over 295 during the final round to drop back to a tie with UCLA for fifth place. UVA completed the event at 6-over 858. USC took top honors at 9-under 843. Virginia, ranked No. 28 in the most recent Golfweek standings, finished ahead of seven other teams ranked above it in the poll.
Megan Propeck was UVA’s second-best finisher, coming in ninth for the second time in three events. She shot 1-under 70 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 2-under 211. That topped her previous best tournament score of 212 she posted at last year’s Stanford Intercollegiate.
First-year Jaclyn LaHa carded a closing score of 79 and dropped back to 29th position at 3-over 216. Rebecca Skoler shot 78 on Sunday and was 75th at 228 while first year Kiera Bartholomew was 96th at 238.
UVA will open the spring portion of its schedule on Feb. 2 when the Cavaliers host the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico.
