Virginia Faces Maryland in NCAA Quarterfinals
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Virginia field hockey team (13-6) take on 4-seed Maryland (17-3) in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Field Hockey Championship on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Md.

MATCH NOTES
- Virginia is No. 5 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll. Maryland is No. 4
- This is UVA’s is the 27th trip to the NCAA Championship for the Cavaliers and their 15th in the last 18 years
- This is Virginia’s 11th time advancing to the quarterfinals
- The Cavaliers are looking to advance to the NCAA Semifinals for the sixth time in program history. UVA last made the final four in 2019 with a 1-0 victory against Maryland in Charlottesville
- Virginia fell 2-1 against Maryland on Sept. 18 in Charlottesville in the regular-season meeting between the two teams
- Virginia is 2-1 all-time against the Terrapins in the NCAA Championship, dropping the last meeting 2-1 in College Park in 2021 but having won the previous two meetings
- This would be the 72nd meeting between UVA and Maryland. They have faced one another at least once every year since 1977, except 2014 & 2015 (the first two years Maryland was in the Big Ten) and the 2020-21 COVID season
- 25 of those games have been decided in regulation by a one-goal differential. 14 other games have gone to overtime (with two ties)
