No. 7 Virginia Falls 8-1 at No. 3 Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 7 Virginia men’s squash team (1-1, 1-0 MASC) suffered an 8-1 loss at No. 3 Yale (2-0, 0-0 IVY) on Saturday (Nov. 11) at the Brady Squash Center in New Haven, Conn.

Sophomore JP Tew picked up the lone point for the Cavaliers, battling for 90 minutes against Arav Bhagwati at the No. 2 position before earning an 11-8, 11-13, 12-10, 12-10 victory.

Junior Taha Dinana made his debut at the No. 1 position, playing three tight games against Siow Yee Xian, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.

Senior Myles McIntyre won a marathon third game 18-16 against Tad Carney before being edged 12-10 in the fourth game to drop the match.

“It was not the outcome we were hoping for today, but our guys can be proud of the effort they put in and of the way they carried themselves. They fought for every point and they maintained an excellent mindset from start to finish. The Yale squad played a skilled brand of squash today on their home courts and the scoreline reflects that. For anyone watching live, however, the contest was still a close one well into the second round of matches. Another terrific performance from JP Tew started to bring the momentum our way, and it looked like co-captain Myles McIntyre was going to consolidate that for us after a monumental 18-16 win in the third game. We just weren’t quite able to fully turn that corner today. But we certainly have the opportunity to do so tomorrow in our second top-ten contest of the weekend against Columbia. If our men are able to come out with the same fire and the same energy they showed today, I am confident that we will be up for the challenge the Lions will present on their home turf.”
