LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Virginia men’s track and field program opened competition for the 2024 indoor track and field season Thursday (Nov. 30) at the Liberty Kickoff where Henry Sullivan and Luke Smith competed in the combined events at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

After the first four events of the men’s heptathlon, Sullivan accumulated a total of 2,622 points and sits in fifth place overall. Smith totaled 2,555 points which ranks seventh among the field of competitors. Just three events have yet to be contested including the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1000-meters.

Smith (779) and Sullivan (749) each took their highest point totals of the day from the 60-meter dash clocking times of 7.30 and 7.39 respectively. Smith marked a distance of 6.27 meters (20’7”) in the long jump while Sullivan set a personal best in the high jump clearing a height of 1.81 meters (5’11.25”).
