Virginia Women Down UNC, NC State; Men Split In Tri-Meet

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 1 Virginia women’s swimming & diving team defeated No. 8 NC State (265.5-87.5) and No. 20 North Carolina (272.5-80.5), while the No. 18 Virginia men’s team defeated North Carolina (222-131) but fell to No. 4 NC State (244-109) in a tri-meet that concluded on Saturday (Jan. 20) at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.

Gretchen Walsh continued to set marks for the Hoos as she hit the fastest split in the 50 fly for her leg of the 200 Medley Relay and she hit a new pool record in the 100 free.

MEN’S RESULTS

  • The Hoos opened the day with second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Matt Brownstead, Noah Nichols, Tim Connery and August Lamb turned in a time of 1:25.27.
  • Sebastien Sergile took a second-place finish in the 200 free to lead the Hoos with a time of 1:35.89.
    • Will Cole’s third-place finish paced the Hoos in the 100 back with a time of 47.72.
  • Matt Brownstead finished second in the 100 free with a time of 42.93, while Connor Boyle finished fifth with a time of 43.96.
  • Noah Nichols and Max Iida went 1-2, respectively, in the 100 breast. Nichols finished with a time of 52.38, while Iida finished with a time of 54.13. August Lamb was fifth with a time of 55.86.
  • Sebastien Sergile finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.76, while Noah Nichols finished fourth with a time of 1:47.65.

DIVING

  • Lizzy Kaye took second in the women’s 1m to lead the Cavaliers with a score of 294.30. Maddy Grosz took fourth with a score of 271.50.
  • Nicholas Sanders led the Hoos on the men’s side with a fourth-place finish in the 3m with a score of 313.15.
