Fosdick and James Lead UVA on Day 1 of Puerto Rico Classic
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico. – The No. 13 Virginia men’s golf team opened its spring season by shooting 6-under 282 during the opening round of the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club. The Cavaliers are in 11th place in the 15-team field
UVA was led during the opening day by a pair of 3-under 69s from Ben James and Chris Fosdick. They are tied for 17th place. Bryan Lee and Paul Chang both shot even par 72 and are in 54th place. Josh Duangmanee is 82nd after shooting 75. Deven Patel, competing as an individual, is in 46th place with a round of 1-under 71.
North Florida leads the field after shooting 17-under 271. UVA will be paired with Minnesota and the College of Charleston for Monday’s second round. Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
