CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Β The No. 3 Virginia field hockey team (10-1, 4-1 ACC) picked up another 1-0 victory at home against No. 16 Louisville (5-7, 1-3 ACC) on Sunday (Oct.6) at Turf Field in Charlottesville, Va.

GOAL (Assist)
47:08 VirginiaΒ  β€” Taryn Tkachuk (Suze Lemmans)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first half of play, both teams came out strong to keep the game scoreless through three quarters. Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Virginia took the lead as Taryn Tkachuk netted one for the Cavaliers with an assist from Suze Lemmans.

With two minute remaining in regulation, Louisville exchanged their goal keeper for an extra field player. Despite the extra player, the Cavaliers were able to fend off Louisville’s attack and hold the Cardinals to a 1-0 game. Improving to 10-1 on the season, the Cavaliers remain undefeated at home.

FROM HEAD COACH OLE KEUSGEN
“First half, we got all our momentum from the defense. In the second half, we got our game together and played a bit more risk and force moving forward, so that helped us but it’s our defense that keeps us in games.”
Coming off Friday’s game against Boston College
“It was a tough turnaround. We traveled back from from Boston on Friday night. As you can imagine, that’s tough. We played a very poor first half more so in terms of effort. So it was good to see a game today where we played all four quarters with 100% effort and with the intensity that is needed to win ACC games.”

  • Taryn Tkachuk netted her third goal of the season
  • Tyler Kennedy recorded her 11th career shut out
