CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia field hockey senior back Emily Field was named the Defensive Player of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (Oct. 22) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Field made a game-saving defensive save in the final minute of the second overtime of Friday’s shootout victory against Syracuse. She was a key element in Virginia’s backline defense that held Miami University to just one shot (not on goal) in Sunday’s shutout of the RedHawks.

This is her first career conference honor.

Field is the fourth Cavalier to be named an ACC Player of the Week this season, joining goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy (defense, 9/10), midfielder Suze Leemans (offense, 9/10) and midfielder Mia Abello (offensive, 10/01).
