CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia women’s tennis team qualified for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships with their finishes at the ITA Atlantic Regional held Oct. 17-22 at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.
Seniors Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky, the top-seeded doubles team in the draw, won five matches over the course of five days to take the ITA Regional title. Their victory earned them an invitation to the 2024 NCAA Doubles Championship, being held Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. This is the first year that the singles and doubles championships will be contested in the fall instead of after the NCAA team championship in the spring.

In singles, graduate student Sara Ziodato, the No. 2 seed, finished as the runner-up in the ITA Regional. As a finalist, Ziodato earns an invitation to the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship. Ziodato was edged 7-5, 6-1 by Ozlem Uslu of Virginia Tech in the final.

Sophomore Meggie Navarro and Ziodato finished as the runner-ups of the doubles draw, falling 6-4, 6-1 against Collard and Chervinsky. By virtue of their finalist finish, they have earned the opportunity to compete for one of the NCAA Championship slots available at the ITA Sectionals, being held Nov 7-10 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior Annabelle Xu finished in third place in the singles draw, and Chervinsky finished in fourth place. Both are in contention to compete at Sectionals. Freshman Martina Genis Salas was a quarterfinalist and is also still in contention to qualify for sectionals. In the coming days, the ITA will announce the official Sectional field.
Collard, Zara Larke, Blanca Pico Navarro and Meggie Navarro competed in the singles main draw. Xu, Genis Salas, Larke, and Pico Navarro competed in doubles.
