Shelter Locations

The University of Virginia prides itself on providing an exciting and entertaining atmosphere for fans at Klockner Stadium. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of those in attendance, from fans to student-athletes and employees.

A key part of this commitment involves closely and constantly monitoring the weather for potentially dangerous conditions. UVA employs a series of checks on weather conditions, including the use of sophisticated radar and tracking services to gauge the severity and track of storms.

Working with game officials, the University may decide to suspend a game, close and evacuate the stadium because of weather conditions. In these cases, fans initially are alerted via text alert, public announcements within the facility, local media, social media and other platforms that evacuation may be possible.

If evacuation is mandated, fans should exit the stadium and seek shelter until receiving notice that the game will be resumed and the stadium is reopened. Any patrons without a personal vehicle at the event should notify event staff who will make the appropriate accommodations.

For updates on weather delays, please check our social media pages.

The policy limits the size and type of bags that can be brought into venues. The policy does not change the items fans may bring into the stadium but restricts the type of bag used to carry items.

  • Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and cannot exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or clear one-gallon plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bag or similar) are also permitted.

Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to: purses, wallets or clutches larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, diaper bags, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size. Seat cushions and seat backs are permitted as long as they are not in a carrying bag.

Medical Bag

Medically necessary bags are permitted to enter at any gate. Please designate yourself to the security screening staff member, who will direct you to a secondary bag search. Once cleared you will receive a temporary wristband to place on your bag and should not be removed until after you have left the venue. Diaper bags are not a medically necessary item. All items needed for small children should be carried in a clear bag.
