ATLANTA-Jason Basil drove in five runs, and Jay Hood and Stephen Donaghey knocked in four apiece as 18-th ranked Georgia Tech (12-5, 2-0) set a team record for wins in a 27-4 win over Virginia (10-3, 0-2)
Tech senior L.J. Yankosky (3-0) pitched one-hit ball for eight innings, striking out a career high 11 batters, and left the game with the Yellow Jackets ahead, 27-0.
Tech scored four times in the first inning and four in the second with the help of five errors by Virginia second baseman Luis Giraldo. Basil made them pay for the mistakes with a single and four RBI’s.
Virginia got all its runs in the ninth inning against reliever Andy Mitchell on two walks and three hits, including a three run homer by Giraldo. The teams conclude their seriesat 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
