CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s lacrosse team (1-2) begins a three-game road trip at William & Mary (1-3) on Thursday (March 2) at 7 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.

The Cavaliers are coming off a 17-10 loss to then-No. 12 Princeton. It was a close game until a 5-0 run put Princeton ahead 15-8 as UVA was unable to comeback. Freshman Sammy Mueller (Pelham, N.Y.) and senior Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.) both recorded hat tricks in the game to pace the Cavaliers.

Mueller leads the team with 10 goals this season. She ranks sixth in the ACC with 3.33 goals per game. Reese has eight goals and has recorded back-to-back hat tricks. Senior Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) is second in the ACC with 2.33 assists per game.

Sophomore Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 13 draw controls after picking up a career-high eight against Princeton. Fellow sophomore Kaitlin Luzik (Alexandria, Va.) leads the defense with five caused turnovers.

Virginia and William & Mary are meeting for the 52nd time. The Cavaliers hold a 33-17-1 lead in the all-time series. UVA won last season’s meeting 16-8 in Charlottesville. The last time the two teams met in Williamsburg, Virginia won 22-9 on March 12.

William & Mary enters Thursdays contest 1-3. The Tribe most recently fell to Davidson, 10-9. Lindsey Jenks leads the Tribe with 10 goals. Abby Junior is pacing the defense with 17 ground balls, 13 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Alex Lista has accumulated 37 saves.

Virginia will remain on the road as it travels to No. 5 Syracuse on Sunday, March 5 for a 4 p.m. game at the Carrier Dome. The Cavaliers will close out the road trip at No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday, March 11.
