CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia had four players named to the 2017 ACC Women’s Lacrosse All-Academic Team, the league announced on Tuesday (June 27).

Seniors Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.) and Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.), junior Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) and freshman Sammy Mueller (Pelham, N.Y.) earned the distinction for the Cavaliers.

This is the third academic honor for Vander Kolk, who has served as the starting goalkeeper for UVA the last three seasons.

It was the second selection for Preas, a second team All-ACC honoree. Reese, a IWLCA All-Region selection, was named to the academic team for the first time. ACC Freshman of the Year and IWLCA All-Region honoree Mueller was also named to the team for the first time.

All eight of the league’s women’s lacrosse programs are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, which includes seven student-athletes that earned IWLCA All-America honors in 2017. Fourteen members of the ACC All-Academic Team were named to the All-ACC Team.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
