PLOVDIV, Bulgaria – Virginia senior Morgan Rosts (Jordan, Ontario) earned a gold medal at the 2017 World Rowing Under-23 Championships on Sunday (July 23) at the Plovdiv Regatta Venue in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Rosts was part of Canada’s gold-medal winning women’s eight crew which out-distanced second-place United States 6:09.89-6:16.44. Russia, Germany, Denmark and Great Britain rounded-out the top-6 finishers in the event. UVA senior Ellie Stewart (London, England) and junior Heidi Long (Buckinghamshire, England) were part of the sixth-place Great Britain crew.

“It was such an amazing experience,” Rosts said. “I am so proud to represent my country, as well as the University of Virginia. It was an honor to compete at the international level and awesome to see so many NCAA student-athletes excel on this stage.”

Rosts extended UVA’s streak of having at least one student-athlete on the gold-medal winning women’s eight at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships to eight consecutive years.

“I can’t be more proud of Morgan for her attitude, persistence and training to be a World Champion,” UVA head coach Kevin Sauer added.
