CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (0-1) will host Central Connecticut (0-1) in its home opener on Sunday (Nov. 12) at 2 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena.

The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra. All of the 2017-18 Virginia women’s basketball games – home and away – are available locally on the radio on NewsRadio 1070 AM and 98.9 FM WINA. The game will also stream live online on ESPN3/WatchESPN.

Security Information
Virginia Athletics has implemented a clear bag policy and enhanced security procedures for home football and men’s and women’s basketball games. The changes in policy and entrance procedures are a result of recommendations for large-scale events held on Grounds by the University of Virginia’s security consultant.
All bags entering John Paul Jones Arena for home men’s and women’s basketball games must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and cannot exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Clear, one-gallon plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bags or similar) are also permitted. Additionally, all fans entering the arena will be screened upon entry, typically with walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
The new policy does not change the items fans may bring into John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers are receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today Coaches’ polls. Virginia opened its season Friday night at No. 7 Mississippi State. The Cavaliers kept pace with the Bulldogs for most of the first half, but Mississippi State pulled away for a 33-23 lead at the half and went on to win 68-53.

Sophomore guard Dominique Toussaint (Staten Island, N.Y.) led UVA with 17 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore center Felicia Aiyeotan (Lagos, Nigeria) made her first collegiate start and grabbed seven rebounds with four blocked shots.

Central Connecticut opened its season on Friday as well, falling to West Virginia 102-52. Kiana Patterson, who leads the returnees averaging 11.2 ppg and started in 30 games for Central last season, scored 14 points against the Mountaineers. The Blue Devils were chosen fifth in the 2017-18 Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

This is the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Virginia remains at home to host Georgia on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena.
