CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s basketball head coach Joanne Boyle announced the signing of Erica Martinsen (Clarence, N.Y.) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Cavaliers for the 2018-19 season.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Erica Martinsen to Virginia Women’s basketball,” Boyle said. “Erica is a high IQ combo guard who is a pure shooter with deep range and a quick release. She plays with a toughness and tempo that fits our style and system here at UVA. Erica will really be able to stretch defenses and her versatility will help us with our rotations and depth. We are all very excited for Erica to join our UVA family and we look forward to the impact she is going to have on the future of this program.”

Martinsen, a 5-foot-9 shooting guard, played for three years at Williamsville East High School, before playing at Blair Academy in New Jersey where current UVA forward Felicia Aiyeotan played. Martinsen will also play with IMG Academy in 2018.

During her time at Williamsville East, Martinsen eclipsed 1000 career points as a sophomore and is approaching the 2000-point mark for her career. A two-time Western New York High School Player of the Year, Martinsen averaged 32 points per game as a sophomore and 22 points per game as a freshman.

Martinsen set numerous high school records at Williamson East. After setting the school record for most points in a game with 45, she later broke that record with 50 points in a game. Martinsen also owns the records for most three-pointers in a game (8) and most three’s in a season (99). Martinsen also played with the New Jersey Sparks Nike Elite Youth Basketball League.
