Aguilar, Caldwell Receive MLS Combine Invites

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia seniors Pablo Aguilar (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Jeff Caldwell (Todd, N.C.) were among 60 NCAA Division I College players invited to participate at the 2018 MLS Adidas Player Combine in Orlando.

The league will hold its annual combine from Jan. 11-17 at Orlando City Stadium, with representatives from all 23 MLS clubs scouting the top college prospects ahead of the Jan. 19 MLS SuperDraft in Philadelphia.

The invitees were chosen by a committee of MLS coaches and NCAA D1 coaches from every conference. Each of the 60 invitees have completed their college eligibility this season. Further invitees, including Generation adidas signings and non-college players, will be announced in coming weeks.

Aguilar scored 14 of his 16 career goals in his final two seasons as a Cavalier. He earned Second Team All-ACC honors as a junior and Third Team accolades this past season. Aguilar elevated his play in the postseason, scoring a golden goal in the Second Round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament and recorded his first multi-goal effort in the First Round of the 2017 ACC Tournament. Aguilar was second on the team with 1,995 minutes played and appeared in all 21 games for the Cavaliers this past season.

Caldwell finished out his collegiate career as one of the top goalkeepers in Virginia soccer history, ranking in the top 10 in career in shutouts (23 – T-3rd), minutes played (5,185 – 3rd), games played (61 – 3rd), saves (190 – 5th), goals against average (0.85 – 6th) and save percentage (.776 – 7th). In his final year, his 0.80 goals against average was the third lowest in the ACC and ranked 23rd lowest in the country. For the third-straight year, he earned All-ACC honors after being voted on the Second Team in 2017.
