Kiser and Nelson Highlight UVA's VaSID Honorees

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sixteen Virginia football players were named to the 2017 Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) All-State Division I Football team, announced the organization. Micah Kiser (LB) was named the VaSID Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row, while Brenton Nelson (S) was named the VaSID Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Virginia’s 16 honorees on the all-state team are the most, followed by James Madison’s 14 all-state selections and Virginia Tech’s seven.

Five Cavaliers earned first-team honors: Kurt Benkert (QB), Evan Butts (TE), Micah Kiser (LB), Quin Blanding (S) and Lester Coleman (P).

Eleven Cavaliers earned second-team honors: Jordan Ellis (RB), Olamide Zaccheaus (WR), Jack English (OL), Jake Fieler (OL), Andrew Brown (DL), Jordan Mack (OL), Chris Peace (OL), Juan Thornhill (CB), Brenton Nelson (S), Joe Reed (KR) and Joey Blount (SP).

Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta was the VaSID Offensive Player of the Year, Norfolk State’s Juwan Carter was the VaSID Offensive Rookie of the Year and James Madison’s Mike Houston was the VaSID Coach of the Year.
