List Of NCAA Championships Qualifiers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Redshirt senior Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) and redshirt junior Will Schany (Blair, Neb.) earned at-large bids to the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the NCAA selection committee announced on Tuesday (March 6).

With his selection, Atkinson becomes the 10th four-time NCAA qualifier in program history. It is Schany’s first berth to the NCAA Championships. Atkinson earned one of four at-large bids at 165 pounds, while Schany earned one of five at-large bids at 174 pounds.

The NCAA Championships run March 15-17 at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Atkinson posted an 18-7 record this season and turned in a third-place finish at the ACC Championships at 165 pounds. He is a three-time place-winner at the ACC Championships for his career. In his first three NCAA Championships appearances, Atkinson wrestled at 157 pounds. He advanced to the 2015, 2016 and 2017 NCAA Championships after his redshirt season with the Cavaliers.

Schany earned his first bid to the NCAA Championships after posting an 18-12 mark on the season that included wins over then No. 18 Devin Skatzka of Indiana and No. 18 Jordan Pagano of Rutgers. Schany dropped down to 174 pounds this season after wrestling at 184 pounds his previous three years at UVA.

The two at-large selections bring the total number of NCAA qualifiers from UVA to six for the 2018 NCAA Championships. Atkinson and Schany join redshirt freshman Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.), redshirt sophomores Sam Krivus (Greensburg, Pa.) and Tyler Love (Clifton, Va.), and sophomore Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas) in selection for the NCAA Championships. The four other wrestlers earned automatic bids by virtue of their finish at the ACC Championships last weekend.
