CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight was named Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week Tuesday (May 1).

Virginia’s 2V8 crew defeated No. 3 Texas, No. 8 Iowa and Oregon State in the finals of the Longhorn Invite last Saturday (April 28) on Walter E. Long Lake in Austin, Texas. The Cavaliers posted a time of 6:52.069 in the finals despite battling a strong headwind. The UVA 2V8 had earlier posted a time of 6:32.269 in defeating No. 8 Iowa, Alabama and UCF in the preliminary heats.

The Virginia Second Varsity Eight is composed of senior coxswain Adi Hendlin (Tallahassee, Fla.), sophomore stroke Reilly White (Wyckoff, N.J.), junior seven-seat Alex Slabbert (Cos Cobb, Conn.), senior six-seat Ali Zwicker (Victoria, British Columbia), junior five-seat Georgia Gray (Seattle, Wash.), senior four-seat Anna Fairs (Thorpe Thewles, England), sophomore three-seat Lizzie Trull (Wellesley, Mass.), junior two-seat Martine van den Boomgaard (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and freshman bow Carrie Warner (East London, South Africa).

The honor marks the second time UVA’s 2V8 has been named the ACC Crew of the Week in the past three weeks. The Cavaliers’ crew was previously honored on April 17 after winning the championship of the Clemson Invitational.

Virginia will compete in the ACC Championships on Sunday, May 13 in Clemson, S.C. UVA has captured eight consecutive ACC championship regattas and 17 of 18 ACC titles overall.
