Mueller Secures Spot On U23 World Team

AKRON, Ohio – Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas), a rising junior on the Virginia wrestling team, secured a spot on the U23 World Team on Sunday, winning his weight class at the men’s freestyle U23 World Team Trials . The event was held at the Luis & Freda Stile Field House.
The U23 World Championships will be held in Bucharest, Romania, the week of Nov. 12-18.
Mueller posted seven victories on the day, winning five bouts to advance to the finals before winning both matches in the best-of-three final series. Mueller defeated Rayvon Foley of Michigan State in the final series to secure his spot on the World Team at 57 kg. He posted five wins by technical superiority.
Twelve total wrestlers from Virginia competed at the U23 World Team Trials.
Other Cavalier performances of note at U23 World Team Trials:
– Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Fla.) advanced to the quarterfinals at 57kg before dropping that match to his teammate, Mueller.
– Brian Courtney (Sayre, Pa.) advanced to the Round of 16 at 65kg before dropping his match to three-time All-American Kevin Jack who recently graduated from NC State.
– Sam Krivus (Greensburg, Pa.) went 6-2 in the event and advanced deep in the consolation rounds at 65kg. One of his two losses came to two-time All-American Kaid Brock from Oklahoma State.
– Jake Keating (Naperville, Ill) went 4-2 at the event, advancing to the consolation round of 16 at 70kg.
– Tyler Love (Clifton, Va.) advanced to the first consolation round of 8 at 92kg with a 3-2 overall record.
