HOOS LIFE: The Pregame Playlist With Jack Weiller
Music is a part of almost every athlete’s pregame routine. For the Virginia baseball team, senior Jack Weiller (Katonah, N.Y.) was tasked to create the team’s pregame, batting practice playlist that consists of 160+ songs. In this edition of Hoos Life, Weiller shares the process, his contributions and why its important.
Who contributes to the playlist and is there a person that has a final say/veto power?
JW: I asked the guys in the fall for five songs that they would like to have on the pregame playlist. Most of the guys had some good variation, but there were a few that overlapped. We can’t have Sicko Mode playing on repeat during our BP so I just added a few extra at the end so it was all even. The main difficulty was finding clean versions of all the songs.
Why is the pregame list important?
JW: Having a good playlist is key because it provides a good, fun atmosphere. Especially before games, the playlist can keep guys loose but also fire them up.
What were your five (or more) contributions?
JW: My initial 5 songs were
• The Eagles – Life in the Fast Lane
• Motley Crew – Kickstart My Heart
• Eric Clapton – Layla
• U2 – New Year’s Day
• Weezer – Say it Ain’t So
I’m essentially a 45 year old man but that’s alright.
