Jocelyn Willoughby Named to the All-ACC Academic Team
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s basketball junior guard Jocelyn Willoughby (East Orange, N.J.) has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced today (March 8) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Willoughby ranks seventh in the conference in rebounding (8.2 per game) and 13th in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. She is the first player to finish the year leading the Cavaliers in both categories since Monica Wright did so in 2010. Willoughby is the first UVA women’s basketball player to be named to the Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District III team since Jenny Boucek in 1996. Willoughby will receive her bachelor’s degree in May in Global Development Studies, graduating in three years, and then will work on her masters at Virginia’s Batten School of Public Policy next year. During UVA’s Fall Convocation Ceremony on October 26, Willoughby received a certificate of Intermediate Honors, a distinction given to third-year students who are among the top 20 percent of their class in the College of Arts & Sciences. She is also a Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership Fellow.
This is her third time being voted to the All-ACC Academic Team. She joins Breyana Mason (2015-17) as the only UVA players to earn the honor three times.
The All-ACC Academic Team, which has been announced every year since 1998, requires a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
