Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore Tanner Morris (Crozet, Va.) is one of 69 student-athletes on the initial Brooks Wallace Award watch list. The award is  annually bestowed on the nation’s top shortstop and presented by the College Baseball Foundation.

Morris currently tied for the national lead and tops in the Atlantic Coast Conference in doubles with 19. He’s looking to become the 13th Cavalier to hit 20 doubles in a season and the first since Daniel Pinero in 2016. The left-handed swinging second-year is batting .344, the highest on the team and ranks seventh in the ACC. Morris has started all 38 games at shortstop and 65-straight dating back to his freshman campaign.

Morris has been one of Virginia’s most consistent offensive threats, reaching base in all but three games in 2019. He has put together two, 15-game reached base streaks that included a stretch of 12-straight games with a hit, a career high.

Last season, Morris was listed on the ACC All-Freshman team and earned a spot on the league’s academic honor roll. In the summer of 2018, he was a Cape Cod League All-Star and the Team MVP of the Harwich Mariners. A draft eligible sophomore, he was recently ranked No. 95 on Baseball America’s Top 400 MLB Draft Prospects.
