CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s annual Wahoowa Weekend will take place Saturday, April 27 and features three events for Cavalier fans. 
 
George Welsh Tribute 
The day starts with the George Welsh Tribute at John Paul Jones Arena at 10 a.m. to celebrate the life and accomplishments of UVA’s former head football coach. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and parking is free in the JPJ lots. 

Welsh served as the head football coach at Virginia from 1982 to 2000. During that 19-year period, he compiled a record of 134-86-3 and retired as the winningest coach in ACC history. In 1991, he was awarded the Bobby Dodd Award as the national coach of the year. Welsh was named the ACC Coach of the Year four times – 1983, 1984, 1991 and 1995. He passed away at the age of 85 on Jan. 2 in Charlottesville.
 
Washington Post sports columnist and best-selling author John Feinstein will serve as the master of ceremonies. A variety of speakers will share their personal memories and stories of Welsh and his career that spanned Penn State, Navy and Virginia.
 
Football Spring Game Presented by Ford
The Virginia Football Spring Game presented by Ford will take place at 1 p.m. at Scott Stadium. Gates open to the public at 11:30 a.m. Parking is free in all parking lots adjacent to Scott Stadium along with Culbreth and the Emmet-Ivy Garage. 
 
Pre-game attractions include a photo booth, balloon artist, face painter and photo cutouts.  The 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball national championship trophy will also be on display for fan photos.
 
Representatives from the athletics ticket office will be on hand to assist fans interested in UVA season tickets, mini packages and single-game ticket options. The ticket office tables will also distribute 2019 Virginia football schedule posters and schedule cards and fans can register there to win prizes during the Spring Game, including a pair of 2019 season tickets.
 
Starting at 12:30 p.m., the first 500 UVA students in attendance will receive free pizza and Pepsi and vouchers to pick up Virginia Football schedule t-shirts. 
 
UVA players will be available post-game for a 30-minute autograph session on the field at Scott Stadium.
 
The UVA athletics equipment staff will sell authentic game-worn football jerseys and helmets prior to the Spring Game. The jersey/helmet sale will begin at 11:30 a.m. when gates open.

Virginia Grand Prix Track & Field Meet
The Cavalier track and field program will hold its annual Virginia Grand Prix meet at Lannigan Field. Field events will start late morning and the running competitions will get underway early afternoon. A complete schedule for UVA’s final home meet of the season will be available at a later date. Parking is available in the University Hall and McCue Center parking lots.
 
UVA’s Clear Bag policy will be in effect for the Welsh Tribute at JPJ and the Spring Game at Scott Stadium.
