Melbourne, Fla. – Virginia junior Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) matched her career best round, shooting 5-under 67, to help Virginia remain in third place after 36 holes of play at the Moon Golf Invitational. All five Cavaliers shot par or better as the team put up a score of 6-under 282 on Monday. UVA’s two-day total stands at 9-under 567. South Carolina leads the 18-team field at 21-under 555 while LSU is two strokes ahead of the Hoos on the leaderboard.

After playing her front nine in three-under par, Smyth posted three consecutive birdies on holes 14 through 16 to shoot 67. She had just one bogey on the day after shooting 6-over 78 during the first round. Smyth’s round moved her up to 30th place in the field.

UVA’s trio of senior Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) and sophomores Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) each shot even par 72. That group is tied for 12th place at 2-under 142 after all three Cavaliers opened the tournament by shooting 2-under 70.

First-year Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.) was included in UVA’s team scoring total thanks to a 1-under 71 performance. She is in 37th place at 2-over 146.
