CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia baseball program will celebrate Ryan Zimmerman Day on Saturday, April 30 when it hosts Virginia Tech in the second game of a three-game series at Disharoon Park. The Atlantic Coast Conference matchup is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.

Zimmerman, a Virginia Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, will be on hand to throw out the first pitch. The celebration will include exclusive giveaways and special edition UVA Ryan Zimmerman bobbleheads for the first 500 fans in attendance. Further details about the celebration will be announced at a later date.

The date was originally planned for April 1st and has been rescheduled for April 30th.

A 2005 All-American at UVA, Zimmerman was a three-year letterwinner for the Cavaliers and a two-time All-ACC selection. He left as the program’s record holder for hits in a season (which has since been surpassed) and currently ranks tied third in program history in single season hits (92), fifth in career batting average (.355) and eighth in career hits (250). Zimmerman was selected fourth overall in the 2005 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut in the same season, just over two months after his last collegiate game.

The Washington Nationals announced earlier this month that the franchise will retire Zimmerman’s number 11 jersey as part of a two-day celebration June 17-18. He retired in February of 2022 as the franchise’s all-time leader (including its time as the Montreal Expos) in games, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, homers, RBIs, extra-base hits and total bases.

Tickets for the April 30th celebration at Disharoon Park are available on UVATix.com or by calling the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office Call (434) 924-UVA1.
