CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia righthanded pitcher Brian Edgington has signed a free agent deal with the Cincinnati Reds. He becomes the sixth UVA player from the 2023 College World Series team to move on to the professional ranks.

Edgington joined the Cavaliers as a graduate transfer from Elon for the 2023 season and played a pivotal role in UVA’s sixth trip to Omaha. The Hatboro, Pa. native was a Third Team All-ACC honoree, serving as a weekend starter for the majority of his lone season with the Cavaliers. Edgington went 9-3 and sported a 3.57 ERA over a staff-high, 88.1 innings pitched. He only walked 24 and fanned 94 batters.

Edgington ranked in the top-10 in the ACC in wins (4th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.09 – 8th), walks allowed per nine innings (2.34), ERA (9th) and strikeouts (9th). His complete game in game three of the Charlottesville Super Regional sent UVA to the College World Series for the second time in three seasons. It was the second, nine-inning complete game of his career. He scattered nine hits, allowed two runs, finished with a season-high 11 strikeouts in a 12-2 win over Duke.

Over the course of his five-year collegiate career, Edgington appeared in 62 games with 47 starts. He struck out 280 batters in 279 career innings.
