Virginia Closes Fall with Two Wins at Rivanna Romp

EARLYSVILLE, Va.–The Virginia rowing team concluded its fall season with two wins at the Rivanna Romp Sunday morning (Nov. 16) on the Rivanna Reservoir. The regatta featured crews from Clemson, Columbia, Duke, Louisville, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Old Dominion and the host Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight picked up the win in the Varsity Eights race, completing the 4,000-meter course in 13:09.8, over 37 seconds faster than Louisville’s top boat. UVa’s Second and Third Varsity Eight placed third and fourth in 13:49.7 and 13:52.8, respectively. Virginia’s fourth entry in the event placed seventh and the Cavaliers’ fifth entry finished 17th in the 24-boat race.
In the Varsity Four race, UVa had all eight entries in the top 14, including the top three spots (15:02.3, 15:06.5 and 15:16.7). Louisville (15:29.8) and Clemson (15:37.5) rounded out the top five of the 37-boat race.
Virginia also placed second in the Novice Eight race in 15:27.1. Louisville won the race in 14:24.4.
